Here’s Ed’s old friend Pat, who lives upcountry in the mountains of Olinda. Pat and Ed traveled together 25 years ago from New England to Ecuador, and then lost touch. Through a mutual friend, Pat got Ed’s address some 3 years ago, but didn’t get in touch until something prompted her to write last November—just before we would be visiting Maui. This happy coincidence gave us a great way to begin our visit, learning lots about Maui from one who lives there.
