September 7, 2001: The warrior princess comes to Cactus Hill!

She might not look that tough to you, but she's already overcome lots of adversity in her young life. This baby was found with her mother and littermates living in a storm drain at SafePlace, where Ed works. A kind SafePlace critter lover rescued the whole family and found homes for them all. We're the luckiest, 'cause we got Xena.

She's about 3 months old, a black tortoiseshell cat. Currently she lives mostly in Chris's room. Introductions to the rest of the clan are under way, slowly and carefully. The dogs are big, scary, and intensely curious, and the other cats are old and either disinterested or wary. We'll get there.
