Chris reports:
This
morning I went into Bastrop, 10 miles down the highway, for grocery
shopping and a trip to WalMart. When I returned home and stopped the car,
I heard small cries from under the hood. The dogs were instantly
alert and very curious, so I knew I wasn't imagining it. There was silence
for a minute or so, and then another cry. I opened the hood and looked
everywhere, half expecting to find a mangled kitten caught in the engine
parts. Couldn't see a thing. Then more cries. Finally I spotted him, up
under the fender in a metal "tunnel" that carries electrical wires―probably
the only space in the engine compartment where he was relatively safe―a
sand-colored tabby kitten. After some study of angles and openings, I
managed to pull the little rascal out of his hidey-hole.
He's like another Max! He's very
sociable, fearless, and cute as all get-out. Imagine riding under the hood
at 70 miles an hour down the highway! I can only imagine how he got there―had
to have crawled up through the engine compartment. Either he was dumped in
one of those big parking lots, or got out of someone's car. He is well
cared for and lovey-dovey. After some debate, we came back to
only one possible name:
