Firewheel, or Indian blanketIndian Blanket or Firewheel
(Gaillardia pulchella)

In Texas it seems that each year one wildflower variety makes a particularly splendid showing. Some years are bluebonnet years. Sometimes Indian paintbrush rules. This year it's Indian blanket. Our highways are lined with blankets of these  brilliant combinations of red, orange and yellow resembling brightly woven tapestries.

At Cactus Hill we don't have a large expanse of Indian blanket on Cactus Hill, but the camera did catch this single flower, along with its two visitors, in startling detail.
