Resting on our laurels

Spring 2005: After much consideration, we have decided that Annie's Team has run its course. We participated in seven Walks and raised tens of thousands of dollars for SafePlace to help survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. By telling Annie’s story, we have also raised consciousness and perhaps pointed a few people in a new and more productive direction. For that record, we must thank everyone who has ever been part of Annie’s Team, whether as a contributor or a walker. We’ve had a really great run. And now it’s time for Annie’s Team to bow out.

The Walk is still SafePlace's biggest fundraising event, and we hope that the spirit of Annie's Team will continue to generate support. The local news is full of stories about the funding cuts at SafePlace, how severely stretched their budgets are, and how demand for their services continues to grow. If you walked with us or contributed to Annie's Team in past years, we encourage you to continue your participation. 

The SafePlace Walk for Safe Families and Safe Streets takes place each spring. Complete information is on the SafePlace website: www.austin-safeplace.org. You can sign up to be a walker, and you can make a donation on line. Those of you who've walked with us know what a great experience Walk Day is, and we encourage everyone to show up again this year. You know there's no shortage of good fellowship, whether you're on an organized team or a solo walker.

Our wonderful team has served long and well, and Annie’s story has been well told. We hope that all of Annie’s Team will carry forward a commitment to SafePlace and continue to support this fine organization. Please join the Walk, make a donation, or both!
