Thursday, June 22: Heading north from central Texas, you don't get to any serious hills until you've traveled through a whole lot of flatland first. The Texas panhandle is noted for its featureless landscape, which makes it especially easy to spot the famous "Cadillac Ranch" outside Amarillo.

Ten old Cadillacs, models from the 1950s and '60s, have been "planted" nose down in a row. Visitors come by every day with cans of spray paint to decorate the old cars with designs and graffiti of all varieties.
