At 5 p.m. on Saturday, September
13, 1997, the three of usEd, Chris, and
Chris's mother Anneboarded the
Holland America Line's m.s. Nieuw Amsterdam and embarked
from Vancouver, British Columbia, sailing north between
the Canadian mainland and Vancouver Island, then along
the Canada coast and up the Inside Passage, which winds
through southeast Alaska. As you can see, southeast Alaska is far removed from the main part of the state. The mountains which line the coast plunge into the sea, forming deep passages, easy for ships to navigate. |
| A cruise through the Inside Passage affords
spectacular views on all sides, and it's the only way to
see this part of Alaska.
