Once in a while we like to travel down to Port Aransas, about 250 miles south of here, and spend a day or two refreshing our relationship with the ocean. Port Aransas is a small town on a strip of land called Mustang Island, accessible via bridge from Corpus Christi on its south end, or via ferry from Aransas Pass.

The main attraction? This beautiful beach, with its bevy of birds—scooting sandpipers and soaring seagulls. Each time we take along a big loaf of bread. This time the birds gathered around even before Ed opened the bag. They knew what was coming!
