Yellowstone National Park: Lake Yellowstone

Our first day in the park ends at peaceful Lake Yellowstone, where evening rainclouds have produced a faint rainbow.

Yellowstone Lake
Lake Yellowstone HotelThe largest freshwater lake in North America above 7,000 feet, Yellowstone Lake has 110 miles of shoreline. And near its north end stands Lake Yellowstone Hotel and Cabins, where we spent our 2 nights.

Lake Yellowstone Hotel, was completed in 1891 and restored to its 1920s grandeur in 1990. The majestic hotel sits on the shore of Yellowstone Lake and is listed on the Register of Historic Places. Evenings in the Sun Room are a great time to view the serene lake, enjoy a cocktail, and visit with other guests while the piano player gives us a tune.

Our accommodations were not in the main hotel but in the nearby cabins, slightly less luxurious and a lot cheaper!
