The house took on a whole new appearance after it was painted barn red with white trim. 

And there's our jeep—not the commercial Cherokee or Wrangler we see these days, but a real U.S. Army vehicle. After World War II these were made available to civilians. We made several trips between Chicago and the farm in the jeep, an adventure in itself.
